The Green Demon - Idea development and Concept

Since the background research gave me indications that this project is going to be a trial and error as there's no general guideline for any monster, I've decided to choose something so that I can use my previous knowledge more and keep the random experiments to a minimal as I also has a sword to make after this project. And this is not just about making the character, I also have to optimize it later to make it production friendly, that is, I also have to retopologize the character later to make it ready for UV mapping, texturing and animating afterwards.

Since I'm not good at drawing, I've decided to use a concept art form a professional concept artist instead of making my own monster. There's two reason behind doing so. Firstly, I don't have to become expert in sketching as I'm not interested in doing concept arts. Secondly, it's also an essential skill to be able to make something from other people's concepts. Because in a production environment, one person (or group of persons) draws the concept, and then another person (or group of persons) converts those sketches or ideas into 3D models. and I intend to be a part of the second group.

After searching for a while on monster and demon concept arts and trying to match them to my scope and criteria for this project, I decided to use the concept of this artist from Art Station.

This is his description for this concept:

"a fierce Green demon with ten eyes. Its body is geen with black spots scattered across its scales. Give it sharp claws, glowing eyes. The dragon should have a menacing stance, exuding power and danger."

From my workflow point of view, I'd say it's a tree trunk with mouth and teeth. It has 8 cylindrical tubes going out in different curvature and at the end of the curvature, it has eyeballs with half spherical eye sockets that are seamlessly welded with the cylindrical tubes. And is has almost triangle shaped feet all of which has different shapes and curvatures.

I chose this project because I can somewhat simplify the bigger proportions of the character, but also I have some place where I can do some experiments to learn new methods and techniques to make unique shapes that is often reqiured to make a monster character. Also, optimizing this character is going to be somewhat challenging given it's asymmetrical and unique shapes.
